Museum at River Estate & Waterwheel

Encompassing roughly 1,976 hectares and situated in Diego Martin, River Estate stood as the grandest and most esteemed sugar plantation. To provide the necessary energy for the sugar cane crushing rollers on the Estate Lands, a cast iron water wheel was ingeniously erected in 1835. The vital water source driving this wheel was drawn from the adjacent Diego Martin River. Remarkably, this exceptional water wheel, located directly across from the River Estate Museum, is likely the sole surviving complete example of its kind in Trinidad.
